MyComments

Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) . Actor in a Supporting Role
It was a tough category. Thomas Haden Church was outstandin in his part in Sideways, but he hasn't the nominations Morgan has got in his past. Plus, he is pretty good in Million Dollar Baby. Personally, i prefered Thomas Haden, but it's understandable the choice of Morgan Freeman over him.

The Incredibles . Animated Feature Film
Oh. Eventhough Pixar is indeed the greatest animation studio out there this movie, in my opinion, is nowhere near to their past works. I thought the movie had a good screenplay, but it just wasn't ground-breaking by any means. As in Shark Tale they did an outstanding job portraying the under-water universe, just like Pixar did with Nemo, but the humour was much better.. more elaborated and as a sort of parody.

Cate Blanchett (The Aviator) . Actress in a Supporting Role
This was expected. She is one of the greatest actresses of our days and did wonderfully in filling the shoes of one of the greatest actresses of the past.

Sideways . Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
wow! What a pleasant surprise!! :D I loved the movie, specially how the plot was laid out.. The characters were very deeply structured and the whole action was well paced. I didn't expect them to get it, but it's indeed a pleasant surprise. :)

Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) . Actress in a Leading Role
She deserved this. She worked so hard physically to be able to play this role, and she did it wonderfully. It's a very intense part and she was up for it. If she didn't get it, Kate Winslet or Imelda Staunton would be my choice. Although i admit, i haven't seen Being Julia nor Maria Full of Grace.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Charlie Kaufman) . Writing (Original Screenplay)
Kaufman has proven in the past his worth.. and he's done it again. This movie is so touching and, as usual in Kaufman screenplays, so uncommon. And that is probably the biggest characteristic of Charlie Kaufman's scripts... Uncommonly Great!

Jamie Foxx (Ray) . Actor in a Leading Role
Ok, if they had given this to Di Caprio i would personally hunt down the Academy members and...... I loved Jamie's performance in Ray, specially because it was so creepy to watch him for he acted exactly like Ray Charles! Taking advantage of the sessions in which he got to interact with Ray himself he absorbed everything, from his voice, to his light stuttering, passing by his wide smile and attitude.
Truly deserved! And he gave a touching speech. Pretty similar to the one at the Golden Globes, though.

Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby) . Directing
He deserved this. Having such a career as his, and for taking a chance with this movie who noone would pickup at first, he managed to pull together a wonderful movie about human emotions and relationships.. not just about boxing.

Million Dollar Baby . Best Picture
!!! Ok, i wasn't expecting this! I chose Clint for Directing forseeing that the best picture would go to The Aviator. It wasn't my personal choice, but seeing all the hype the movie has been getting i was expecting it to win! But it didn't. Scorcese, once again, didn't win. I wasn't very fond of the Gangs of New York last year, and i wasn't very fond of the Aviator this year too.

Clint's the big winner tonight. His movie got oscars for Actor in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Leading Role, Directing and the Best Picture (out of the main categories). Nice. :)

and i got 5 out of 9 right. I was never that good at guessing. My tastes are never in synch with the Academy's. :) hehe

anyways, more Oscars next year! :)
